For Carrot Bean Bag
- Orange fabric (For Carrot Body)
- Green fabric (For Leafy Tops)
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Fabric pencil
For Filling
- Pillow fiberfill: Any Pillow stuffing will work for toys and decor. You could do this alone if you don’t need them to have any weight to them. Some light pillow fabric could make for a great carrot-filled garland too!
- Weighted Bean Bag Filler Options
- Dried beans OR Rice: If you prefer a bean bag feel, opt for dried beans like kidney beans or lentils to give your carrot bean bag a weighted bottom. Dry rice works too! Because you are using a food product, you will not want these carrot bean bags to get wet.
- Polyplastic Pellets: This material is made for filling bean bags.
- Rock Pebbles: Any small sand pebbles should work. If you are using this carrot bean bag for a game of toss, you might want to be mindful of what kind of rock is going into your carrots so no one gets hurt.

For The Carrot Body
You don’t need a lot of fabric to make these carrot bean bags. The shape is like a slice of pie, very triangular and round on the top. As you can see I cut the point off, to reduce bulk and explain how seams work. You would fold your piece in half, and sew along the side to create the carrot point. Having my rotary cutters, and folding the fabric a few times, made cutting 12 carrots really fast.
Filling the Carrot
After sewing the carrot shape, gently turn it inside out to reveal the right side of the fabric. Now comes the fun part – stuffing the carrot to give it a plump and soft texture. For a weighted carrot, choose any of the suggested fillers HERE. Use your preferred stuffing materials to fill the carrot, ensuring it’s adequately stuffed to maintain its shape and form.
For The Leafy Tops
The carrot leaf tops are so simple. I did not get footage of me cutting the shape, but basically I folded 4-6 inches of fabric, and cut the rounded leaf shape, and leaving an inch uncut on the bottom. It looked like a stretched-out scallop ribbon. I made a three sets of four carrots with different leaf tops to tell them apart. Each of my children got their own set and we played two fun games with these carrots, and they doubled as decor as well.

Sewing The Top
To complete your carrot bean bags, it’s time to sew the top to the body. Place your green fabric leaf tops inside the carrot one inch inside. Arrange your leaves, spreading them out as much as you prefer, and then begin to pinch the orange fabric around the leaves. Under your sewing machine needle, use a tight zigzag stitch, like the button feature, to sew a secure line across the top. You can use a carrot colour thread to make this line not show up. I was in a rush and didn’t mind the look. Once the top is attached, your carrot bean bag is ready to bring joy and a creative touch to any space.
